What many baseball coaches have
found out about the DH
(besides the fact that it’s a very effective tool for training pitchers)
Today baseball coaches across the country are turning to the Designated Hitter to train their pitchers to throw more strikes, walk fewer batters, and attack the inside part of the plate.
In Chapel Hill, North Carolina, UNC pitching coach, Scott Forbes, uses the DH because it makes bullpens more game-like, and helps pitchers learn to "pitch in" with authority.
Down in Starkville, Mississippi, the assistant coach for Mississippi State University, Russ McNickle, reports that using the Designated Hitter during bullpen sessions gives his pitchers great visual feedback when working on pitch location.
In Lynchburg, Virginia, Scott Jackson, the pitching coach
at Liberty University, recommends that the DH be used to develop in pitchers the right type of aggressiveness and mentality to pitch inside.
When the groundskeeper for a large university in Austin, Texas mistakenly returned the DH to its inventor, the pitching coach there immediately contacted the inventor and purchased two replacements.
All across the country baseball coaches are recommending the DH. And, many pitchers say that the DH is the best tool for learning to pitch inside. For the DH is a revolutionary training aid. It’s durable—made of a space-age polymer to withstand 100-plus mile-per-hour fast balls without splitting or tipping over. Yet, because it’s lightweight, under thirty-five pounds, the DH is easy to move and position anywhere in the batter’s box.
Most people know of course, that it’s the design of the DH that makes it America’s most effective pitching training aid. A professional silhouette of a standing batter, the DH includes an inside pitching target so pitchers learn to pitch inside with confidence. But, as the evidence on this page points out, there is an additional reason why baseball coaches turn to the DH: To bring more realism to practice sessions.
And this evidence is supported by the the pitchers who have improved their game performance. In fact, after using the DH for 29 days or less, many pitchers report a marked improvement in their control...hitting their spots 60% to 70% of the time. And, they have more confidence pitching inside.
If you’re not currently using the DH in your bullpen or pitching sessions, why not give this 2007 American Baseball Coaches Association “Best In Show” pitching aid a try? If you’re not completely satisfied, we’ll refund the entire purchase price.
